Ali Carr is the Founder and CEO of Basecamp Outdoor, the place the outdoor industry (and those looking to join) come to network, find jobs, get career advice, and talk all things outdoor industry — including how to make it more inclusive and diverse. She is also a content strategist at Rivian. Most recently, she was the Head of Content & Community within Nike’s start-up lab working on a project advocating for women’s realities in pregnancy and postpartum.
She is an award-winning writer and editor with 15+ years experience in the outdoor industry, most notably at Outside magazine, The New York Times, Gear Patrol and more. In 2018, the feature story she wrote about her dad’s disappearance at sea in Outside won a gold medal from the Society of American Travel Writers.
She founded Basecamp in 2017 when she identified that the outdoor industry could use a more dynamic, interactive place to job-hunt — so, naturally, she tapped her network and built one. Ali’s career has not always held one trajectory. She’s also spent time at Microsoft building an editorially-driven app and in public relations for the outdoor industry.
Ali is a firm believer in encouraging people to listen to what resonates with them to create a fulfilling career path and life. She’s also a firm believer in lunchtime runs, office dogs, and advocating to get young girls outside, including her three daughters.
