Colin Kearns

Field & Stream

Colin Kearns is the Editor-in-Chief of Field & Stream. He studied journalism and English at Indiana University. After college, he worked at Salt Water Sportsman magazine for three years, before joining F&S in 2008. In 2016, he was named Editor-in-Chief—just the sixteenth person to hold the title in the brand’s 128-year history. In spring 2024, nearly four years since Field & Stream had stopped printing a magazine, Kearns led the editorial team in the publication of the first issue of the all-new F&S journal. Kearns’s writing for Field & Stream has been noted in past editions of The Best American Essays and The Best American Sportswriting. He lives in New York City with his wife, Amanda, and their son, Leo.

    19 years ago, former Field & Stream editor, Sid Evans, entrusted a top 10-list style manifesto to Colin, in hopes that he would continue to grow the tradition of the magazine. Colin will share these secretive nuggets of wisdom to fellow media and marketing professionals at Outdoor Media Summit, while adapting some new rules that he's created to adjust to the ever-changing media landscape. While not actually editing tips, Evans' sage advice serves as a guide to any person who holds, or hopes to hold, the title, Editor in Chief.
