Claus Moberg has spent the last fifteen years building innovative consumer technology products and, more importantly, nurturing and scaling the teams responsible for those products. He currently serves as General Manager of Consumer Mapping Applications at Outside Inc, where he is responsible for the Trailforks, Gaia GPS, and MapMy family of outdoor recreation mapping utilities.
Prior to Outside, Claus served as Vice President of Engineering at Roblox, where he grew the consumer app team from eight people to over 350 engineers, product managers, designers and data scientists across his nine year tenure. At Roblox, he also led the zero-to-one creation of Luobu, Roblox’s joint venture with Tencent to launch the Roblox platform in mainland China. Working in the outdoors industry has been a dream for Claus since his first YMCA backpacking trips through the Wind River Mountains in middle school. Thereafter, he would impatiently wait for each new issue of Outside and Backpacker to show up in his mailbox, and he paid his way through college by selling tents, backpacks, and sleeping bags at his local outdoor retailer.
Claus holds Bachelors Degrees (Political Science, Economics, and Environmental Science) and a Masters Degree (Meteorology), as well as most of a PhD (Atmospheric Chemistry, ABD) from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He lives in Incline Village, Nevada, on the shores of Lake Tahoe, with his wife, Christine, sons Jack (13) and Simon (10), and dogs (Huck and Rosie). His hobbies include trying to keep up with Jack on a mountain bike, Simon on downhill skis, Christine on long hikes, and Huck and Rosie on backcountry ski tours through the Sierra wilderness.
