Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville (MPR AVL) is a premier volunteer-led, foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue serving Western North Carolina. Founded in 2017, the organization is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and cats. Operating without a traditional shelter, MPR AVL relies on a dedicated network of foster families to provide loving, temporary homes where animals receive essential medical care and emotional socialization.
The rescue extends its community impact through innovative programming, such as the “New Leash on Life” prison training partnership, alongside accessible spay, neuter, and vaccination clinics. To sustainably fund its lifesaving operations, MPR AVL operates two “The Thrift Hound” boutique thrift stores in Asheville and Candler. Through inclusive matchmaking, community outreach, and an unwavering commitment to animal welfare, Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville continues to build a more compassionate future, one happy tail at a time.
